Using a Vibrator: Female Edition

Posted by Anna Bergeron on

A vibrator is a favourite among women the world over. If they had to choose a single sex toy to take to a desert island, for most it wouldn’t even take a second thought. But why is this so popular? What is it they do for women that other sex toys don’t?

What is a vibrator?

A vibrator is one of the simplest sex toys on the market. It uses an electrical motor to produce a pulsing or vibration. This is then held on the body, stimulating the various nerves and erogenous zones.

Having a Vibrator Used on Her

With something that is so proven to bring such a large amount of sexual pleasure, it’s no surprise that most women will be more than happy for you to take the reins. Using a vibrator on a woman can be a really fun experience, as not only can they teach you exactly how they like to do it, but you might find some things that will surprise her. A lot of the excitement of using it on her will come from teasing, moving it around the various erogenous zones and making her want to orgasm more and more.

You can also bring it into the bedroom proper, and experiment with all kinds of sexual positions. These can be both simple and normal, or things more adventurous that you might not have tried before, but using a vibrator at the same time means you can stimulate extra areas of the body during sex, and might just find something mind blowing for her. Ultimately, when using a vibrator on someone else, it’s a giant journey of sexual discovery. So, don’t be afraid to try things!

Using it on Herself

This is the most traditional use of a vibrator, that people all over the world will be familiar with. When your man is currently occupied, and you just can’t wait to feel that special O. In this situation, many women will become very good friends with their trusty vibrators.

Preparation

Many women are extremely experienced with their vibrators already. There are a few simple steps before you start though, which almost any woman can benefit from following.

Before using your vibrator, it is important to give it a thorough check over. Over time, vibrators will be subject natural wear and tear. This can manifest in small rough patches, or even damage to the surface which can make up sharp edges. These can be easily fixed with a small nail file. Using the device with these defects though, can cause irritation to the skin, or even small cuts or abrasions.

Depending on what you plan to use the vibrator for, or some personal preferences, having lubrication on hand is usually a good idea. While many women focus primarily on the vagina, and it does produce its own lubrication, sometimes this won’t be enough. This is particularly true of shorter sessions, where you want to quickly reach an orgasm. Anal play also will require lubrication, as the anus produces no lubrication of its own.

Foreplay

Sometimes you just want to quickly have an orgasm and get on with your day. There’s nothing wrong with that, and if this is what you’re after, there’s no better tool than a vibrator. Sometimes though, you want to spend a little more time on yourself, so you might like to take a little bit longer to warm yourself up.

Your vibrator isn’t just good for your vagina. You can use it on all different parts of your body. There are erogenous zones all over the human body. The longer you spend stimulating these zones around the body before you move onto your vagina, the more explosive the orgasm will be when you finally get there.

Areas that are great to tease are found all over the body. Some will be much more sensitive, such as the nipples or around the anus. Others will be less sensitive, and the arousal tends to come from gradually moving the vibrator towards the vagina, down the stomach, or up the legs for example. As the vibrator comes close to the vagina, you’ll become slightly tenser, dying to make contact with your lady parts, but then at the last second, move it away. Before long you’ll be begging for climax.

Direct Vaginal Stimulation

If you’ve given yourself plenty of time to build up to it, the first contact with the vagina should feel amazing. Sometimes though, direct contact with your vagina can feel a little overwhelming. You might want to start on the lowest setting, and gradually work yourself up to the stronger settings so that it doesn’t become too much. If you still find the stimulation a little too strong, using your vibrator over your underwear can slightly muffle the effect.

Whichever strength you end up using, the most common area a woman will target on the vagina is the clitoris. This is a small, pea sized part of the vagina, which is filled with even more nerve endings than the penis! All of these sensitive nerves mean that the clitoris is not only much better at bringing a woman to orgasm than other areas, for some women it’s even required.

A clitoral orgasm will usually come on very quickly, although they can take a little longer as you become accustomed to your vibrator. You might also find that some parts of your clitoris are more sensitive than other parts, so a little searching might be necessary to find the right spot.

If you’re one of the women who find clitoral stimulation a little overwhelming, then you might be looking for other areas to stimulate. Any part of the vagina or anus is able to give you stimulation to bring you to orgasm, but some areas will take longer than others. One area in particular that can be great to stimulate is the G-Spot.

G-Spot stimulation tends to take a little more work than other kinds of vaginal stimulation. It’s usually worth the effort though, as G-Spot orgasms can be much more intense and pleasurable than a regular orgasm. Some women will even be able to squirt as a result of G-Spot stimulation.

General Female Vibrator Tips

There are a few tips that are useful to bear in mind no matter which vibrator you end up using. While these aren’t necessarily rules, they are useful to bear in mind, as they can make your experience with a vibrator much easier and simpler.

A good place to start whenever you start using a vibrator is the controls. These can vary massively from device to device, sometimes being a simple single button somewhere on the vibrator, or can be entirely separate panels connected by a wire or operated remotely. Spending some time familiarising yourself with the controls is never a waste of time, as much of the time while you use your device you won’t actually be able to see the buttons. Hitting the wrong one at the wrong time can really kill your mood, so being able to hit them without looking is a must for a lot of vibrators.

Some vibrators are specifically designed for certain areas of the body. While these are still suitable to use wherever you like, you’ll most often end up focusing on the specific areas your vibrator is best at pleasing. For some parts of the body, it can help to use a little lube, as constant stimulation on the same part of the body can become a little uncomfortable if done for a long period of time. Lubrication is extra important if you plan to use your vibrator anally, as unlike the vagina, this part of the body doesn’t produce any of its own lubrication.

Cross contamination is also something women especially need to look out for. In the heat of the moment, you might quickly want to swap the vibrator from one part of the body to another. In most cases this will be completely fine, but if you have used your vibrator in your anus, then moving it to the vagina is a big no-no. Bacteria found in the anus, while not harmful to the anus, can wreak havoc on the vagina, leading to all kinds of nasty infections. If you want to swap, give the vibrator a thorough clean first.

Best Vibrators for Women

Women are a bit luckier with vibrators, as almost all of them will be suitable for their bodies. Some are a little better than others though, so depending on which part of your body you want to target you might want to choose a specific vibrator. Here are some examples:

Bullet Vibrators: These are the jack-of-all-trades of the vibrator world, and will be useful in almost any situation. Their small size makes them ideal for targeting very specific areas of the body, and you’ll easily be able to experiment with different areas and types of stimulation without the need to adjust your position. The one shortcoming of a bullet vibrator though, is that you probably won’t want to use it anally. These small vibrators are very easy to lose, and once something goes into the anus it’s very likely to travel further, and eventually need surgery to remove.

G-Spot Vibrators: A G-Spot vibrator is the quintessential “woman’s vibrator”. These are designed for a part of the body which is only found in a woman, so it makes sense that these would be an ideal choice. G-Spot stimulation is a bit of an art though, and can take a lot longer than a traditional orgasm, so if you’re after something quick and easy these probably shouldn’t be your first choice.

Rabbit Vibrators: Favourites among women the world over, the rabbit vibrator can do everything. Whether it’s penetration, simple vibration, or even clitoral stimulation, the rabbit has a specific part designed to hit the right spot. If you’re looking to grab one vibrator for all your needs, these should be your first choice.

Of course, there is a huge range of other vibrators out there for you to choose from. Choosing the perfect one for you might take a while, so be sure to spend a decent amount of time thinking about it. Ultimately, you want to explore and enjoy the different parts of your body, so whichever you choose you’ll be in for a treat!
